Koinonia Church: A Legacy of Growth, Faith, and Mission
Koinonia Patan Church (KPC) is celebrating over 46 years of faith and growth since its founding in 1978. From its humble beginnings, it has flourished into a thriving community with 175 daughter churches. Looking back on this journey is humbling, as it has been made possible only by God’s grace and the guidance of His Spirit.
In 1983, the church faced significant challenges when the government began persecuting Christian churches. In August of that year, the Chief District Officer ordered the closure of Koinonia Patan Church, forcing believers to gather in different homes. Despite this setback, fellowship and prayer continued, and the congregation grew.
Koinonia Church’s vision
“To fulfill the great commandment of the Lord Jesus by establishing the body of Christ, the church, while growing in God’s love, faith, and holiness.”
Mission statement
“To glorify Christ Jesus by dedicating ourselves to His service through the creation of mature leaders by awakening a sense of fellowship and common ownership to establish churches through prayer, evangelism, and discipleship.”
By the end of 1983, the need for a permanent church building had become evident. In an extraordinary display of faith and sacrifice, believers generously contributed jewelry, gold rings, watches, and even their harvests to support its construction. Through prayer, dedication, and unwavering commitment, the congregation came together, and in 1984, Koinonia Patan Church built a small building—offering a sacred space where scattered believers could finally reunite in worship.
As the church expanded, the need for a full-time pastor became evident. After much prayer, Dr. Mangal Man Maharjan was ordained in 1985. Today, he serves as the founding Senior Pastor of Koinonia Churches alongside his close friend and fellow founder, Pastor Om Prakash Subba. Koinonia Church is a non-denominational Christian community that believes in the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and upholds the Apostles’ Creed as a foundational statement of faith.
Koinonia Church Council
Governance
With the expansion of Koinonia Churches, the need for a governing and facilitating body became evident. In response, the Koinonia Church Council was established in 2010 to provide leadership, oversight, and support for the growing network of churches.
The Koinonia Church Council operates with a clear vision and mission, ensuring that all ministry activities remain aligned with its divine calling. The Council comprises 48 member churches and functions under the leadership of a governing board of 15 members. A full-time General Secretary oversees administration, fostering collaboration and guiding the mission of Koinonia Church as it continues to grow and serve communities.
Church Council Constitution & by-laws
Guided by biblical principles, the church has established its own constitution and by-laws to ensure smooth administration and effective management. These structures help coordinate a large number of missionaries, pastors, evangelists, and administrative staff, allowing the ministry to flourish while maintaining unity and purpose.
